With a view to develop an exemplary tourism trail which can be environmentally sustainable and directly beneficial to the low-income families and as an alternative to already hugely populated and congested Annapurna and Everest trekking routes, MEDEP developed new eco-trekking trail in Parbat and Myagdi districts in 2010-11 through the collaborative partnership with the Annapurna Dhaulagiri Ecotourism Community, Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) and Trekking Agencies' Association of Nepal (TAAN). The route is named as community managed Ecotrail Mohare-Khopra- Khayar Lek. The trek offers a fabulous Nepali experience with a mixture of nature and culture in abundance. This Eco trekking route covers two VDCs (Banskharka and Lekfat) of Parbat and five VDCs of Myagdi (Ramche, Histan, Ghar,Shikha and Narchyang).

This route starts from Ghumaule Lake of Myagdi (Nearby Beni) and reaches to Banskharkha and Dadakateri of Parbat district and then Nagi, Mohore dada, Tikot,  Gharamdi, Khibang, Shikha, Swata, Ghandkharkha, Khopra, Khayare Lake and Narchayng Besi of Myagdi District. There are major three route (5days, 9 days and 11 days) with two main destination viz Mahore Danda (3300 masl) and Khopra Danda 3800(msal) in the circuit (See the map attached).

Contrary to other commercial trekking routes, this Eco-trail is completely managed by the local community. The management committee consists of nine local members of the community led by Dr. Mahabir Pun, renowned social worker and winner of Myagsaysay awards. Mr. Chitra Bahadur Pun is the coordinator of the project.  The committee is solely responsible for management of the Eco-trail including management of community lodge and dining hall, homestay, repair and construction of the trail. The income from the Trail is shared by the community (90%) and Administrative cost (10%).
